Manage personal blacklist and whitelist
Add important numbers (doctor, school, work)
Prevents accidental blocking
Has priority over the community database
What are blacklist and whitelist?
Blacklist
Particularly important for critical calls
Note: Your personal lists always take precedence over the PhoneBlock community database. A number on your whitelist will never be blocked, even if it has been reported as SPAM by thousands of other users.
Whitelist
Numbers on your whitelist will never be blocked, even if they are reported as SPAM in the community database.
Important: Your whitelist entries also contribute to the database and help to correct incorrect SPAM messages.
Manage lists
Step 1: Open settings
Tap on the menu icon (☰) at the top left and select "Settings"
Step 2: Select list
Select "Blacklist" or "Whitelist" from the settings
Step 3: Display list
Your personal numbers are displayed
How numbers are added to the lists
Numbers are automatically added to your lists when you rate them:
- SPAM message: If you report a number as SPAM, it will automatically be added to your blacklist
- Legitimate message: If you mark a number as legitimate, it is automatically added to your whitelist
You can rate numbers:
- From your call history
- Use the search function to look up a specific number
Remove number from list
Swipe left over the number and tap the trash can icon to remove it
Storage on the server:
Your lists are stored on the PhoneBlock server and taken into account during the SPAM check. Your personal lists always have priority over the general community database.
This means that your ratings apply to all devices on which you are logged in with your PhoneBlock account.
Summary: How the lists work
Blacklist
- Automatically created when you report numbers as SPAM
- Blocks numbers immediately, even without a high community SPAM score
- Your messages contribute to the shared SPAM database
- Ideal for blocking persistent callers immediately
Whitelist
- Automatically created when you mark numbers as legitimate
- Prevents blocking, even with a high community SPAM score
- Your positive reviews help to correct false SPAM messages
- Important for numbers you don't want to miss under any circumstances
Community contribution:
Each of your ratings - whether SPAM or legitimate - helps the entire PhoneBlock community. Your personal lists always take precedence over the general database, but your ratings are also included in the community rating.
Important to understand:
A number on your whitelist will never be blocked, even if thousands of other users have reported it as SPAM. Conversely, a number on your blacklist will always be blocked, even if it is considered legitimate in the community database.
